ArtsGreensboro Selects 2023 Community Elevation Projects

ArtsGreensboro selected nine art-based projects to complete in East Greensboro City Council District 2 as part of the Community Elevation Grant Program. The grant committee awarded Piedmont Blues Preservation Society, BNatural Academy for Music and the Arts, Footsteps to Follow, Shine Beauty Studio, Jokez N Jamz, Renaissance Event Center, Afro Agriculture, K & Q Publishing and 43North77West Photography. All projects will be completed by the summer of 2023.
The Community Elevation Grant Program aims to foster community engagement and develop creative collaborations among community members, local artists, and arts organizations. ArtsGreensboro received over 40 applications and selected those best aligned with the feedback received through Active Listening Discussions.

“Rhythm and Rhizomes is a series of workshops that was birthed out of the realization that agriculture can be coupled with the art of dance to address issues of food insecurity, malnutrition in underserved communities and the absence of physical artistic outlets that promote body positivity on the journey to wellness,” said Nallah Muhammad, the Co-founder and Wellness Director of Afro Agriculture when asked about her plans for the Community Elevation Grant. “The Community Elevation Grant will assist us in empowering others to change their own lives.” Afro Agriculture is a Greensboro-based grassroots organization whose mission is to expose historically disadvantaged and food insecure youth to nature, arts and self-sustainability. Afro Agriculture is partnering with Zodwa Dance Company.
ArtsGreensboro promotes creativity in all forms. The selected projects consider a broad range of art from fashion design to agriculture. Initiatives like Community Elevation Grant allow ArtsGreensboro to expand the art available in our community while preserving the history and culture of different neighborhoods.
