Season of Thanks – Maria Gonzalez

As part of the season of thanks, we continue to feature a few individuals, known and unsung, who are helping to keep our art community strong and vibrant. Today, we are giving thanks to Maria Gonzalez.

Maria Gonzalez is one of the most hardworking and busy women I know. Yet, she is always willing to help those in need.  Maria serves on the ArtsGreensboro Grants Committee, but that is just one of the many organizations she is involved with. Maria, a native of Colombia, moved to the United States in 1998, speaking little English. Not to allow anything to hold her back, she took a position with ClubFitness in 2001. She found her career calling, and today she serves as the CEO of ClubFitness Greensboro. Maria offers inspiration to all who know her. Part of that is because she brings an infectious enthusiasm, commitment to a strong and diverse community, and the power of wellness, exercise, dance, music, and art to bring people together.

Maria is an active community member. She serves as a board member, organizer, and volunteer for a diverse set of important organizations: NCCJ, Weaver Foundation, Casa Azul, NC Folk Festival, Hirsch Wellness Network, Guilford Education Alliance are just a few. Maria received a Leadership Medal in 2018 from Leadership Greensboro. She was a member of the 2015 Leadership Greensboro class. Maria was one of the organizers of the Faces of Diversity and GSO National, and International Dance Day at Lebauer Park. This event draws hundreds from across the community to come together to dance, laugh, make new friends while embracing and celebrating the diversity of our community.

ArtsGreensboro is grateful to leaders like Maria, who make Greensboro a creative, vibrant, and inclusive community.
