JOB TITLE: Development Associate   

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, with benefits/Non-exempt

REPORTING TO: Director of Development

Starting Salary: $33,000

 

OVERVIEW: As an integral part of the ArtsGreensboro Team, the Development Associate will help create and implement strategies to ensure sustainability and organizational growth. The ideal candidate will strongly believe in and commit to ArtsGreensboro’s mission with at least two years of previous experience in philanthropy and database management. A creative thinker who enjoys a fast-paced, results-driven, and service-oriented environment with exceptional organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, problem-solving abilities, possess and practice confidentiality maintaining constituent information, with excellent written and oral communication skills.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Services

  • Management of donor database; maintaining accurate and timely constituent records, updating constituent contact and historical information, developing mailing lists, creating and analyzing weekly and monthly data reports.
  • Facilitate daily processing and submission of donations (cash and in-kind), pledges, gifts of stock transactions, and payroll gifts; prepare donation acknowledgments, pledge invoices, solicitation materials and packets, manage donor inquiries, process online and phone contributions.
  • Update weekly campaign reports, organize and distribute materials for board and committee meetings, manage board meeting logistics, oversee printing and mailing of all campaign appeals and communication materials, plan and execute two giving days each year (Giving Tuesday, Arts Day, etc.), and assist in coordinating and providing support for special events, collecting RSVPs, reserving venues, preparing promotional materials (i.e., Art Scavenger Hunt, Campaign Kickoff.)
  • Assist the Director of Development in conducting prospect research and prepare profiles and information for review meetings, including corporate and business sponsors, assist in donor stewardship with a focus on donor retention and upgrades, and promote and maintain monthly giving program.
  • Participate in the research, planning, preparation, and reporting of grants to external funders. Maintain grant files and calendar, conduct research for possible funding opportunities, and assist in completing grant applications and reports.

Administrative

  • Administrative duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, answering telephone inquiries, processing daily mail, photocopying, file maintenance, and letter correspondence.
  • In addition, this position will work closely with Finance personnel to process and record daily deposits, reconcile database and financial records, and compile the information required for audits.
  • Additional responsibilities as requested by the Director of Development and President + CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of two years in a philanthropic setting and donor relations.
  • Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with development software and/or CRM systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks within large, complex projects with a corresponding capacity to assess the broader picture.
  • A high degree of responsibility, initiative, professionalism, and follow up – self-starter able to work independently.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

This position requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, the ability to work well in a team environment, organize department workload to ensure all deadlines are met, and be willing to initiate projects and follow through to completion. Strong customer service, tracking, reporting, analyzing, and organizational skills are a must.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standard work hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm; unless otherwise required to meet responsibilities. Some night and weekend work is required. Work is primarily sedentary and inside, with some standing, carrying of materials. Physical activity increases during special events. Ability to stand, walk and or sit for long periods of time required. Speech and hearing skills are required for communication with people, in interviews or groups. Visual skills are required in preparing materials, typing, and proofreading.

 

This is a full-time salaried position. Compensation is early career with opportunity for growth and increased responsibility. Benefits package includes health insurance through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, an optional 403(b) retirement plan, and optional dental insurance.
