One of many ArtsGreensboro grants programs and support mechanisms, Project Support Grants are single-year investments in high-quality arts experiences
Greensboro, N.C., September 8, 2014 — Seventeen local arts organizations and community organizations have been awarded Project Support Grants totaling $125,325 for the 2014-2015 year, ArtsGreensboro announced today. A seven-member panel comprised of arts professionals from across the region and ArtsGreensboro Board members evaluated the requests and recommended 17 for funding to ArtsGreensboro’s board of directors, which approved the list at its most recent meeting.
ArtsGreensboro’s 2014-2015 Project Support Grants have been awarded to:
- Action Greensboro/Downtown Greenway
- “Living Mural” created/installed by schoolchildren – $5,000
- African American Atelier
- Ten exhibitions by diverse artists, plus 18 workshops, 7 special events – $14,000
- Art Alliance of Greensboro/Magic Art Bus
- Magic Art Bus will provide free, high-quality arts programs to low-income children – $7,000
- Bel Canto Company
- Provide a side-by-side youth choral experience with an innovative professional choral concert – $10,800
- Center for Visual Artists
- Guilford Printmaker’s Co-Op will give artists access to printmaking equipment and provide public instruction – $10,800
- Creative Aging Network-NC
- Visual arts residency for refugee elders, culminating in an exhibition and reception – $2,400
- Dance Project
- Professional dance performances and outreach across Guilford County – $8,400
- Elsewhere Artist Collaborative
- Connect global artists and Greensboro residents through co-productions of site-specific artworks, projects, and events – $16,000
- Geeksboro Coffeehouse Cinema/Triad Health Project
- Geeksboro Bargain Arthouse Cinema – $4,750
- Greensboro Ballet
- Teaching artists will inform community and develop dancers in the art of ballet – $9,000
- Greensboro Opera Company
- Daughter of the Regiment performance – $8,100
- Greensboro Oratorio Society
- Free performance of Handel’s Messiah – $3,150
- Indigo Cultural Arts Center
- Seven-day celebration of Kwanzaa – $1,500
- Music for a Great Space
- Seven public chamber music concerts plus educational events for over 1,500 students – $13,800
- Piedmont Blues Preservation Society
- 2015 Carolina Blues Festival – $4,000
- Touring Theatre of NC
- First season as resident company at The Crown at the Carolina – $5,760
- Triad Pride Men’s Chorus
- “Malt Shop Memories” concert – $865
This year, ArtsGreensboro will provide approximately $1.2 million in direct financial support to Guilford County’s creative community through a menu of support mechanisms, including its four major grants programs—Mission Support, Project Support, Teacher Art Grants, and Regional Artist Grants. In addition, ArtsGreensboro supports other grants and arts funding through designated grants, event sponsorships, and sub-granting programs—including major support for arts groups in High Point through the High Point Area Arts Council. Other initiatives, including the crowd-funding platform Power2Give, contributed media, and special grants provide growing support in new and innovative ways.
Project Support Grants are single-year investments in high-quality arts experiences with measurable outcomes. Each Project Support Grant furthers one or more of ArtsGreensboro’s strategic priorities, including access and diversity, economic vitality, and arts education programs.
“Project Support Grants are important to our entire community,” explained ArtsGreensboro President and CEO Tom Philion. “This program allows ArtsGreensboro to invest in a wide range of innovative arts initiatives that reach a large number of people, engage audiences, and underscore the importance of the arts in our daily lives.”
The Project Support Grant program is funded in part by the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Program as well as by contributions to ArtsGreensboro’s annual ArtsFund Campaign by foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
